Let It Flutter
June 18, 2021 @ 8:00 am - August 15, 2021 @ 5:00 pm
LET IT FLUTTER is a cooperative project of Wide Spot and the Slocan Lake Arts Council. During June, July, and early August, residents of the Slocan Lake area are invited to pick up flags from the Let It Flutter booth (find us at Friday Market or the recycling centre or SBS). Each flag can be decorated in any way you choose to reflect your experience of the past 18 months–your griefs, your joys, your gratitudes, your insights. When completed, the flags will be hung on the fence at 6th and Kildare in downtown New Denver to flutter in the wind–as prayer flags, as symbols of how frayed we might feel, and as a representation of the fact that we are bound together in this time and place.
In mid-August the flags will be removed and made into a quilt which will be on permanent display in the villages.
Support for this project came from the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund, the Slocan Lake Arts Council, Wide Spot, the British Columbia Arts Council, British Columbia, and El Dorado in downtown New Denver.
